Crisps again - recent
« on: Oct 11 - 2017 »
Got two beef and one C&H tonight as per usual.
Both beef smelt and tasted of smokey bacon and the c & o smelt and tasted like burnt Chinese takeaway oil or oily spring rolls!
Whats going on in the factory we have to wonder!!!!

Must say that the crisps are not overly consistent at the present. Not sure what is going on at the factory.  :S* :S* :S*

Recently purchased a bag of beefy crisps whilst having a pint of cask OBB at the Prince of Wales in North Shields - needless to say the beer was as ever quality tasting but the crisps flavourless. Tried the dry roasted nuts and they were not up to the usual standard.

Is the factory cutting back in quality ingredients  --  I wonder

I can still remember the days of KP nuts behind the bar (Salt and vinegar went well with a pint of OBB)

Why does Humphrey have to try and do everything on the cheap... and sometimes nasty?
An OBB Bitter fan if its on song its a good pint

Well, they are hardly cheap to buy! Which I didn't mind when they were great. Imho, the only ones consistent and good are the Chilli ones, no variation since introduced. The others, espec. Cheese and Onion are utter rubbish, Rammell as my dear departed Mum used to say! Every now and again I relent and try them and they are worse than Golden Wonder and that's saying something ( the only wonder is / was that anyone bought them ). As for the factory, I am certain they are produced in London, as this is the only manufacturer not to reply to my enquiry if they make Sam's crisps. I will do more to establish this as time goes on.

Funny enough! I quite like beef or C&O when they actually taste of something or indeed taste of what the packet says they should. Last weeks were pretty horrible but will try again this week no doubt.

Tried em both again last week and I have to regrettably say that they are now horrible, truly horrible. Brought some home for the Mrs who quite likes the beef n she thew em straight in the bin after trying just one. Burnt bacon she described the beef as. They must have changed supplier or the supplier has changed the flavorings to god knows what. It's only my opinion btw.
When H tried the beef with his half I'd be surprised if he doesn't spit em out.

On a lighter note, the OBB was truly superb.

Don't deny a man his opinion!

I've heard from several sources that the crisps in Sam Smiths houses are "vile" I can still remember them selling decent crisps and nuts behind the bar...

All are very variable. Chilli ones the worst, only had great ones witin 4 weeks of release, no good since. C and O can be exceptional when on form. All have a decent amount in the bag too. A gamble on them is IMHO better than any of the 'branded' ones. Which are tue dross ALL the time.
H needs to put his foot firmly on the QC problems with the source of supply, not change it; and theres nowt wrong with having your own brand in prime position.
