The Swan - Location: Holmes Chapel
« on: Mar 7 - 2008 »

Name: The Swan - Location: Holmes Chapel

Address: Station Road, Holmes Chapel, Crewe, Cheshire, CW4 7AU [01477 532259]
Always in support of the Samuel Smiths Brewery - although very concerned about the current company strategy towards its staff and customers, as exercised by the Directors. We believe in promoting common sense, decency, compassion, fairness and compliance with company, employment and English law.

Comedy sign, and is it me, but are games and fruit machines creeping in to Samuel Smith's pubs?

Obviously the dray has a bit of trouble with the archway - too many halves perhaps?

Are there a number of Sam's with no gaming machines then? all the ones I've been in have them.  Just the one though - not like some of the greedy buggers who go for three or even four, a move to be resisted, in my opinion. Gaming machines should be no more than an adjunct to a pub's normal activities, to me.  When you get to that number of machines, the income is seen as a substantial and important part of the income stream, and as such means you are semi operating a gaming establishment, not a pub. But all weak - willed, uninformed governments will do nothing, as they grab the tax revenue.

I know the Harewood Arms Hotel has had it's bandit machine taken out, due to poor sales on the orders of Humphrey. Guess the cost of the license and the takings are not stacking up. The location here might have improved sales, but what do I know.  :WF

Dyneley Arms I think doesn't have one as it's a restaurant rather than a pub nowadays.

Most of the machines are secondhand anyway I think or years old.
The opinions that I express are my own !! A Fan of SSOB products. Time for a pint of OBB

Been open for a week or so now (as of 4th Jan), spent a load of moneyand time  on it, from a new roof downwards it appears. I only hope they have restored cask OBB. If not, why the +++++ not? I suppose I'll just have to go and see. (It's a rough job but someone has to do it etc). I miss going there since it was taken out. The staff tried to convince me the bright version/Sov/whatever was 'the same'. Incidentally, when my Joe Holts local ran out of bitter, they tried to flog me lager, as it 'tasted the same'. Ha.
