Just found this news item but it's from 3 years ago..................

http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/did-chicken-leave-pub/story-11230541-detail/story.html

I'm of in myself in two weeks with my camera, will take plenty of photos.

This article is a cracker and perfectly demonstrates the SSOB attitude towards customer satisfaction! In answer to the question 'why was chicken in a basket removed?' the answer from an SSOB spokesperson was:-

"I just don't feel the need to comment. I'm sorry if that sounds rude. We decide what we sell."

I absolutely love it!! :P PMSL

Brilliant!  It says it all.

DB.

Typical SS policy then. :P It does just about sum up the attitude of the brewery.

Here's the BBC article about the same pub

What a shame this pub was closed when I called.   :(  But it gives me an excuse to go down again to visit it   :P .  I've got a funny feeling that when it opens the carpark will be full of 4 x 4's and people drinking gin and tonics. This is as far away from a Sams city pub that you can get. It reminds me of the Gardeners Arms, Bilton but a lot more upmarket. My photos do not do this pub justice. I do have some more photos, but to find them.  I took well over 1000 photos on 3 chips. (not all of Sam Smith's pubs)

:-[ So sorry about that!!! Preview indeed is evidently required!! I had my six year old at my shoulder asking me how long I was going to be before I played with her! Lol

We went two weeks ago and found it shut. We didn't bother trying this week and just went somewhere else nearby. The 'other' place told me that The Mill had a chimney fire which was why it was shut, but I don't know.

I can report the the Mill as not had a fire................................

1, It had sewerage running into it.

2, It had a flood.

3, And a water heater exploded, but no fire.

And I believe the local council told them to do something about it.

typical of the rumour mill sourrounding many comments on here and also when visiting SS pubs. Not surprised if there was a problem that the Council found then Humphrey would have to do something about it

Well, we eventually made it back this week!  ;D

It did have a chimney fire, but it was on the back of the heating and hot water being broken and various other things going wrong!

It ended up being closed for about 4 weeks, and had a major overhaul. It now has a new heating system, only one water and electricity supply (!), redecoration and is looking so so much better inside. It's still Sam Smith's food and drink, but there's not much that can be done about that! Lol. ;)

As ever, things can't be 'quite' right - there has always been a photo of an old lady by the window seat, she was evidently a regular there for years and used to live in the village. I asked where the photo had gone and was told that Sam Smith said

it's a pub not a memorial

That's a pity I would have taken a photo of it so I could have put it on here.  I'm popping in a week on Sunday for a meal so I retake the outside photos again and this time I'll take some of the inside as well.

I have seen pictures and memorial plaques in some SS pubs for long serving customers. After a few refurbishments they have been removed, which is sad really.
