General Discussion / Re: Credit card charges

It just goes to show, Britain is supposed to be a world leader, but countries like South Korea are hoping to go cashless by 2020. It's unusual to see anybody paying in cash in bars, restaurants and shops over there.

Itís ok as long as you arenít having a family party where £100ís could be involved!  As Iím married to a man who often forgets his wallet (remembers at the end of our street) I always have cash to support myself!

Yes true for large groups it is going to be a problem, but I do know that two SS pubs near me that do a lot of food are keeping their machines. As they have quite a lot of large groups,or hotel guests there.

Just heard my local is turning into a cash only pub.

Yes many SS pubs are changing, due to the new rules regarding charging. Humphrey loves hard cash, not card payments, it does seem silly in this day and age.Where more people pay by card than cash in some SS pubs.

Be a great day to see HS get dressing down or hard ways of life as SS totally needs a complete positive change of guard.

Totally agree, but don't see the day coming anytime soon. Humphrey will be at SS until he's in a box unfortunately.

Apart from the London one which is already mentioned, If I remember correctly I think the Falcon at Chester is leased from the archaeological Trust. I assume SS got a cheap deal, as they contributed to the survey.

Some SS pubs have notices saying children canít stand in the bar area, others donít allow children in after certain times and others have notices saying no admission to children.  Saw the latter one this summertime in a coastal pub.  I know plenty of shop owners who refuse access to groups of children.

I do agree, but i do know several SS pubs that don't serve children at the bar.Others don't seem to mind, I guess managers discretion.

My first local when I came to Yorkshire ??? years ago.  The landlord was Eric Walton, the National Hunt Jockey.  I have not been in the Crown for many a year Went in last Wednesday 3rd January, 2018.  The pub was immaculate everywhere, rooms, toilets, etc. NO TELEVISION, NO MUSIC, just a few people, early doors, talking and remembering the old times.
AND THE GOOD EXCEPTIONAL POINT ? 2 pints of mild, and 1 pint of butter - change out of a £5 note.  Elsewhere in town pints £3 upwards.

Glad to hear some god news for once, this pub seems to have been in abeyance since the last long term managers left. Yes great value for money at SS,three pints out of a fiver.  :EX
